"Hello! My name is Alissa and I was drawn to birth work after the birth of my son. During labor, my doula guided me through contractions while gently reminding me that I was safe and capable of birthing my baby. Her reassurance and support were invaluable. In the days following my labor and son’s birth, I knew that I wanted to help mothers just as my doula helped me. Thus, I began my birth doula training at Bastyr University’s Simkin Center. The education and training I received there has put me on a path to become certified with DONA International. With each family that I support, I am reminded that as a doula I am helping women reclaim their autonomy in birth and be the authors of their birth stories."
