That's right! We are so excited to announce that we are the Central Valley's FIRST Human Milk Depot in partnership with the Mothers Milk Bank of San Jose.

The Nest & Company is licensed by the State of California Department of Public Health (Tissue Bank ID Number: CTP 00082172) to serve as a Human Milk collection site in partnership with the Mother's Milk Bank of San Jose.

Milk Donations

We accept milk donations during our store front hours (appointments preferred, walk-ins welcome) and we do scheduled local door step pick-ups (within Bakersfield city limits only).

Become a Mother's Milk Bank Donor

You can become a Mother's Milk Bank Donor in 3 easy steps:

1. Visit Mother's Milk Bank's website to sign up: https://mothersmilk.org/donate-milk/

2. Complete and return the donor packet. All information is confidential.

3. A free lab slip is given for the required blood tests.

Donors are not charged any fees. All fees acquired in this screening process is covered by the Mother's Milk Bank.

FAQs

Who can donate?

The Mother's Milk Bank and The Nest follow American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) guidelines and Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA) guidelines. We screen to confirm:

Donors are in good health
Medication and herbal vitamin use – some medications are approved. Contact us for more information
Willing to undergo blood test- free of charge for the donor
Able to donate at least 100 oz collected within a 6 month period of time

Where does my milk donation go?

Your milk donation gets packaged and safely shipped from The Nest to the Mother's Milk bank of San Jose. The Mother's Milk Bank of San Jose ensures that your milk is not sold to any pharmaceutical companies and goes to feed babies who are in need.

Who is the Mother's Milk Bank of San Jose?

The San Jose Mothers’ Milk Bank (MMB) is the oldest operating milk bank in North America and is the only non-profit organization (501(c)(3) of its kind in the state of California. They are affiliated with the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA), are safe, certified, and have a legacy of meeting the needs of the most vulnerable populations.

Is It Safe?

In 2017, The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) stated in their report “Donor Human Milk for the High-Risk Infant: Preparation, Safety, and Usage Options in the United States” that: “(HMBANA) Donor milk banks represent a safe and effective approach to obtaining, pasteurizing, and dispensing human milk for use in NICUs and other settings.
